Two Towers in a Forest

This work stemmed from a short story I was working on at the time (2011/12). This event was a presentation of two types of towers using sculpture, sound and a projected animation work employing three different parts of the Joinery building: the front gallery, the side gallery, and the rear studio space.

2. Cartesian Tower (still), projected audio/animation work (for video click image)

The video work Cartesian Tower was projected in large scale in a neighbouring room in the gallery. The audio element was played using an amp and four large speakers.

During the event there was a reading/performance, where my reading voice responded to the sound levels coming from the video/audio work in the neighbouring room.
The reading was a description of the heating, light and water systems inside my parents' home.
After the reading/performance, there was tea and hot whiskeys and biscuits served in the back of the Joinery, beside the stove.
This work was an extension of My Dear Brother's Tree (2011), but here the event happened within and addressed at first the gallery then the less public spaces of the Joinery building.

The short story from which this project originated has since been published by the Dublin Review, edition 59 Summer 2015.
