The Joinery, D7. 26th-29th November 2009
This is the first part of a three-part project based around a large, fictional building. The building has three wings and is located in the countryside, alongside a disused canal. This work refers, specifically, to the North Wing of this T-shaped building; this wing is called: Epiphenomena. Epiphenomena's purpose it is to house and service a Cloud Room. An image, of this Cloud Room, is presented in the gallery space. Elements within the Cloud Room image are extracted and presented, sculpturally, also in the gallery space.
Taking this extraction further, the structure and construction of the Cloud Room is considered; this requires an Engineer. The building's new reality is reliant on the rigours of this design. This design takes place in the Engineer's Office - which is anachronistic - and is installed in the gallery space. However, the Engineer's tools of counting, measurement and empiricism are crude; they are not wholly applicable to this enterprise and ultimately show themselves to be ineffectual.
